“I try my best for my fans” Vtuber SooNyung Shares How Authenticity Built a Thriving Community

“You shouldn’t take your fanbase for granted, that’s why I try my best to engage my fans”

VTubing started as a small subculture movement but has evolved into a massive industry that extends far beyond YouTube channels. It's become a global phenomenon with conventions, major events, and VTubers achieving celebrity-like status. This growth has shifted fan-creator dynamics and relationships within the space. Some argue that what was once a small community bonded by shared love of anime, subcultures, and video games has transformed into a billion-dollar industry where creators have grown distant from their fans. Amidst these concerns in the VTubing space, one creator stands out: SooNyung, a VTuber and content creator who chose authenticity and genuine relationship-building to create a community that truly sticks together.

“I love my fans. You know if you care about someone you talk to them, share meals with them… That’s what I’d like to do with my fans.”

As a top 1% content creator on Fancim M, SooNyung continues strengthening his community bonds through consistency. Nothing fancy—just engaging with his fans daily and sharing stories and personal experiences like a real community. In this post, we'll dive deeper into the secret behind his genuine approach to fan engagement.

"I got into streaming because I wanted to actually make a difference in people's lives"

Q: Alright, let's start simple—who are you?

Hey! I'm SooNyung, and I'm a VTuber who basically just wants to be that friend you can always talk to. Nothing fancy, just real conversations.

Q: So how'd you end up streaming? What got you started?

Honestly, I've always been into content creation since I was a kid. But I only got serious about streaming recently because I realized I could actually use this platform to make a positive difference in people's lives, you know?

Q: When you say "positive difference," what do you mean exactly?

Okay, so here's the thing: most streamers play it super safe, right? They stay "neutral" on everything. YouTubers, Twitch streamers, even TV hosts do this. But neutrality is weird because sometimes staying quiet IS taking a side, whether you realize it or not.
Most creators won't speak up because they're scared of getting canceled or whatever. But me? I want to be the guy who actually shares what he believes and gets people thinking. I want to have real conversations with my viewers, not just surface-level stuff.
Don't get me wrong though—when I do share my opinions, I do my homework first. I'm not just spouting off random thoughts.

Q: What's your endgame here? What kind of streamer do you want to be?

Look, staying drama-free is like the bare minimum, right? What I really want is to make sure everyone who watches my streams has a good time, while also making sure my fans never have to feel embarrassed about supporting me. I want to be someone they can be proud to follow for years to come.

"Fan love isn't something you can just take for granted, you know?"

Q: What platforms do you use to stay connected with your community?

I'm mainly on Fancim M, and then Twitter's probably my second-most used platform.

Q: There are tons of creator tools out there. Why Fancim M specifically?

So here's the deal—as a streamer, public interactions with viewers can get messy really fast. Like, drama starts, people get weird, you know how it goes. But Fancim M is different because I actually have control over the space as the creator. The whole setup puts me at the center, so fans naturally focus their energy on me instead of getting distracted by side conversations.
What I really love is that I can have genuine conversations without all the public group chat nonsense. No weird cliques forming, no drama—just real talk.

Q: You use both Fancim M and Twitter. Has Fancim M changed how you use Twitter at all?

Oh, totally. Twitter's supposed to be anonymous, but let's be real—when fans are posting about their lives and their interests, it's not really anonymous. A lot of my fans felt too shy to interact because they were worried about being too public about it.
So before Fancim M, only my boldest fans would actually comment or engage. But now? With Fancim M, unless I specifically make something public, only I can see their messages. Fans are way more comfortable just sliding into my DMs now, and honestly, I love it.

Q: Did you know you're in the top 1% of Fancim M users? Like, you use it more than almost everyone.

Wait, seriously? I had no clue! I wasn't keeping track or anything. I think I just have a different relationship with my fans than most creators do. It's like... how do I explain this... it's a different kind of love, you know?
Like, when you care about someone, you want to share your day with them. "Yo, I just had this amazing sandwich" or "Just woke up and I look terrible"—that everyday stuff. So I naturally started sharing more and more. But top 1%? That's wild, I had no idea!

"I start with good morning messages, then handle the personal stuff throughout the day"

Q: What kind of content gets your fans most hyped?

Oh man, I'm such a troll sometimes. There's this feature on Fancim M where you can call out someone's name (&&&), right? So I'll use that to mess with people. I'll call their name and then just... disappear for like 10 minutes. They see their username pop up and think I'm talking directly to them, so they come running back to check what's up. Gets them every time! (laughs)

Q: You're basically the master of fan psychology at this point!

It's so much fun! I use that name feature all the time, plus I'm always sending Private Cards too.

Q: How do you use the Private Cards feature?

Private Cards are awesome because you can attach photos, videos, voice messages—whatever. Perfect for birthday wishes and stuff like that. I don't usually send voice messages just randomly, but I'm always sending birthday Private Cards.
My fans will message back saying stuff like "Oh my god, getting birthday wishes from you made my whole day!" Those responses honestly make my week. So I try to check for birthdays every day and send them out consistently.

Q: Doesn't all this—streaming for hours AND managing fan relationships—get exhausting?

I actually worried about this a lot, but I figured out a system that works. I separate my stream content from my Fancim M content. Something interesting happens every day, right?
The small, everyday stuff goes on Fancim M. The bigger stories that could become actual content? I'll tease those in my stream title. Like "Tonight we're talking about that crazy gym guy" or whatever. Then I save the full story for the stream, and keep the casual day-to-day stuff on Fancim M.

Q: Have you ever had fans cross boundaries or get too parasocial?

When that happens, it's all about how you handle it as the creator. If someone's being inappropriate, I'm direct about it. I tell them straight up what's not okay. Sometimes people genuinely don't realize they're crossing a line.
But if they keep pushing after I've been clear? That's it, we're done. Fans who can't respect boundaries can't be part of the community anymore. At the end of the day, I can only maintain good relationships with people who understand where the lines are.

Q: Outside of streaming, is there anything specific you focus on for community management?

Honestly, I just try to give back the love my fans show me. I know I'm probably not doing enough compared to how much they support me, but I'm trying my best. You know how when you care about someone, you want to treat them to dinner or give them cool experiences? That's exactly how I feel about my fans.

"My biggest goal this year? Not letting my fans down"

Q: Any challenges you're facing as your channel grows?

Sometimes the physical exhaustion hits me, you know? I'm putting everything I have into taking care of my community. And creatively, there are definitely days where I'm staring at a blank screen like "What am I supposed to make content about today?" But somehow I keep figuring it out.

Q: What's on the horizon for you? Any big plans for 2025?

Right now I'm laser-focused on nailing my one-year anniversary stream. That's huge for me. Looking ahead to 2025, I want to branch out and try different types of content so more people can discover who SooNyung really is.
But honestly, my main goal is pretty simple: don't let my fans down. They've given me so much love and support, and I want to make sure I'm giving that back tenfold. That's what matters most to me.
