"Talking to my fans makes my day!" — Content Creator WinterD Shares Her Insights on Fan Engagement

“I genuinely enjoy talking to my fans, I think engaging your fans shouldn’t be a chore…” - WinterD Shares ways to engage your fans in a genuine and authentic way

“To me, fan engagement extends beyond my streaming hours”

As live streaming content creators have become mainstream in the past decade, their relationship with viewers has changed dramatically. From one-man operations that often involve just the streamer, live streaming content creators have evolved into a brand and as such, their fandoms have transformed into a community where fans connect not just with the streamer but share an identity as a member of a tight-knit group. Many creators are doubling down on this and hosting offline meetups as well as creating merchandise to reinforce their brand. Because of this rapid evolution of "live streaming turned community-brands", there's a growing need for communication platforms outside of streaming hours. However, for content creators, this presents a new challenge as they often find themselves juggling multiple platforms. The main question streamers find themselves asking is "how can I create an efficient system where I can communicate authentically with my fans while streaming and managing different platforms?"

“I felt like communicating with my fans through just the livestream chat wasn’t enough”
Content creator WinterD started streaming in 2017. She is now in her 7th year of live streaming and has voiced her concerns about this issue. While she is actively trying to communicate with her fans, she told us about her challenges managing multiple platforms and tasks as well as problems that arise within her community such as drama. She discovered Fancim M, and fan engagement became easier and fun again. "It's not just a space where I can engage my fans as easily as sending chats on WhatsApp, but also a community management system built into an app." On special occasions like birthdays, she sends personalized messages through private cards to build deeper connections with individual community members. She's built a reputation for being a content creator that has a great relationship with her fanbase. Her secret? According to WinterD, it's just putting in the effort and engaging your community with authenticity. In this post, we'll dive deeper into her journey as a content creator.

"Seoul was overwhelming when I moved here, so I started streaming. Turns out I was naturally good at building a community!”

Q: Hey WinterD! Tell us a bit about yourself.

Hey everyone! I'm WinterD, and I've been a content creator since 2017 - so that's about 7-8 years now. Honestly, I started streaming because moving to Seoul was pretty overwhelming and I needed something to do. But it turned out that live streaming and building a community was something I was naturally good at, so I just kept going with it.

I'm still figuring out which platform to focus on long-term, but I absolutely love creating content and connecting with my community. My philosophy is simple: without my fans, there's no me. Sure, I need to make a living, but everything I do is possible because of the amazing support from my community!

Q: You’re known to have a solid relationship with your fans. Do you have a specific approach to community building?

I think the key is making it feel natural rather than forced. It shouldn't feel like work or something you "have to" do to keep fans happy. Of course, I definitely pay extra attention to my most supportive members who invest time and money into what I do, but honestly? Just showing up to watch my streams is already huge support that I really appreciate. I try to remember that there are so many people quietly supporting me in the background, even if they're not always the loudest voices in chat. I think my community appreciates that I recognize everyone, not just the big donors or super chatters. (laughs)

"The best part is being able to connect with your community even when you're not streaming!”

Q: There are tons of apps for creator-fan communication. What made you choose Fancim M?

Before Fancim M, I was using group chats and Discord servers, but it got messy really fast. Too much off-topic conversation, people getting too personal, and I literally had to get a second phone just to manage everything. The 1:1 DMs were getting overwhelming, and I was also worried about people's privacy getting compromised. It just wasn't sustainable for anyone involved. When I found Fancim M, what immediately caught my attention was that conversations are private - fans can't see each other's messages. This means everyone can share personal stuff comfortably, and during offline events, we can coordinate just like a group chat. The privacy protection is amazing, but you still get that warm, personal connection. Once I experienced these benefits, I started recommending it to other creators in my network.

Q: How's it been using the platform?

At first, I was probably more excited about it than my fans! (laughs) I was messaging constantly because it was so fun and easy. Now it's just part of my daily routine. Something funny that happened was fans started screenshotting my messages and posting them in fan communities, so I accidentally ended up getting "tickets" to my own fan spaces. While the attention can be a bit much sometimes, I'm mostly just grateful for how much they care. The barrier to entry is really low - like $5 minimum - so lots of people can participate without breaking the bank. I get tips through stickers pretty regularly. What surprised me was when someone who mainly follows other creators secretly sent me stickers too. I love that people can casually support multiple creators without any pressure to pick favorites.

Q: How do your fans respond to the platform?

They absolutely love it! When I share casual photos of my day or what I'm eating - like you would on Instagram Stories - the response is incredible. Even something as simple as a food pic gets so much love from the community. Sometimes I'll make funny content public so everyone can see it and laugh together, and those moments feel like we're all hanging out in real-time. But what fans tell me they love most is being able to connect even when I'm not streaming. One person told me "Before, I felt disconnected after your stream ended, but now it feels like you're always accessible." That really hit me - knowing that I can be part of their day beyond just streaming hours.

Q: Doesn't managing daily streams plus community engagement get exhausting?

I'll be real with you - I'm pretty selective about what I want to talk about. Individual replies can definitely be time-consuming and sometimes feel like work. I know some creators only do public replies to manage their workload, but I try to respond personally when I can because I know how much those individual interactions mean to people. Luckily, engaging with my community brings me way more joy than stress. Even when I'm drained after a long stream, reading messages from my fans gives me energy. Since I genuinely love what I do, the challenging parts feel worth it. And when fans check in to make sure I'm not overworking myself? That just melts my heart.

"Finding the right balance between public messages and one-on-one conversations is key.”

Q: Any tips for creators wanting to use Fancim M effectively?

Starting your day with a public good morning message works really well. I want my community to start their day feeling good when they see I've checked in. For individual relationships, I'd say maybe 3-4 interactions per day with at least one being a personal message creates a good rhythm and natural connection.

Honestly, when I first started, I tried replying to absolutely everything individually. Big mistake - I got completely burned out and actually missed important conversations because I was so overwhelmed. Now I handle general updates publicly and save personal stuff for private messages. This balance has made communication way more meaningful for everyone.

Q: What advice would you give creators just starting with fan engagement platforms?

Get your boundaries right from day one! If you go too hard initially and burn out, your community will notice and feel disappointed. Trust me, I learned this the hard way. (laughs) I used to stay up all night trying to reply to everyone, which tanked my energy and made my streams suffer. Balance is everything. Use public messages for general updates and community building, save personal messages for special moments. Your fans actually want you to be sustainable - they'd rather have consistent, authentic engagement than you burning out trying to do everything. Most importantly: consistency beats intensity. Showing up every day matters more than marathon messaging sessions. And if you're genuine in your interactions, your community will feel that authenticity.

Q: How do you use the Private Card feature?

Birthdays are non-negotiable - everyone gets a personalized Private Card message! For my long-time supporters, I'll sometimes include a selfie or a small gift code to make it extra special. Seeing how happy these personalized touches make people honestly makes my day. The only downside is that Private Cards are stored separately in the Moments section, so some people miss them initially. But overall, it's an amazing feature for creating those special one-on-one moments. Having a way to create unique memories with individual community members is invaluable.

"The ultimate goal is building relationships that go beyond creator-fan dynamics into genuine friendships where we support each other.”

Q: How do you handle problematic or toxic community members?

After almost 10 years of this, I can usually tell pretty quickly. Don't get me wrong - I'm incredibly grateful for financial supporters. But what matters more is genuine connection. Some of my most valued community members have never spent a dime but consistently show up with positive energy and real care. On the flip side, there are people who make demands without contributing anything - treating me like their personal entertainer. Those people get blocked immediately. What's interesting is that you can often tell from usernames or how they communicate. Experience has taught me to recognize when someone genuinely cares versus when they just want something from me.

Q: Any current challenges with community management?

My biggest concern right now is sustainability. I love meeting fans at events and connecting on Fancim M, but doing everything for free is starting to feel unsustainable. Fans don't always realize the time and money that goes into community building, which can be frustrating. This year I did tons of offline meetups. Started out super excited, but by the end I was wondering "Who are these events really for?" The costs add up quickly, but bringing up money feels awkward with the community. I want to create revenue streams that work for everyone, but I don't want to burden my supporters either. Finding that balance is my biggest challenge right now.

Q: What's your secret to building loyal, long-term fans?

Authenticity is everything. Fancim M has been game-changing for this because I can create genuine moments through personal messages and Private Cards. Since most streaming platforms don't have good DM systems, Fancim M filled a huge gap for building real relationships. I try to check in personally with people regularly - not every day, but consistently. Some of my strongest community relationships started this way, and my offline meetups have deepened so many of these connections. That's why I keep doing events even when they're expensive - meeting face-to-face creates a different level of understanding and connection. At the end of the day, people can feel when you're being real with them. The ultimate goal is building relationships that go beyond creator-fan dynamics into genuine friendships where we support each other.

Q: What are your goals for 2025?

Concrete goal: hit 1 million followers across Instagram and YouTube. But it's not about the numbers - I want to connect authentically with more people. I'm planning to focus more on streaming consistency to build my core community and create more meaningful offline experiences. Most importantly, I want to strengthen the relationships I already have. I'm working on sustainable revenue models so I can keep growing alongside my community. Building genuine, long-term relationships isn't easy, but it's absolutely worth the effort!
